A quick “Do it Yourself” test to determine if a yarn is suitable for Knitting or Weaving.
Take a 12″ strand of yarn, hold it so that it droops into a “U” shape. If, it twists as in the picture, it was spun for Weaving, and is often known as a “Z” twist. A knitting yarn will NOT twist onto itself. It has been spun with an “S” twist at the mill.
Knitting requires a “balanced” yarn to knit a length of work without “biasing”.
