FREE Pattern: Super Chunky Ear warmer/Headband

Yet Another Canadian Artisan……..Mary Anne Cutler, 2013

SUPER Chunky Wool Headband

Size: Adult approx 20 in, (50 cm.) circumference
4in, (10cm) high.

Yarn: Burly Spun Wool, from Brown Sheep Co, this is a “roving” type yarn. Alternatively, an acrylic yarn , Lion Brands’ Hometown USA, would be a reasonable alternative.

Method:
Knit flat,

Tools:
9 or 10 mm crochet hook
10mm needles

Crochet cast-on 45 chains.(9 or10mm hook)
Knit 1 row, (Turn over the chain, knit the 1 row, into the bumps)

Pattern repeat:
*Row 1, “Knit 1 stitch, slip 1 st purl wise” , continue these 2 stitches across row.
Row 2, Knit 1 row. *
Continue in pattern last long as you wish. This will be the width of the band.

Finish:
Cast-off in a linked manner to match the cast-on.
NOTE: I cast off, purl wise so the edges would look identical. ( purl one stitch, pass stitch over etc.) I had run out of yarn and finished on a “slip stitch” row, thus needed the purl stitch type of cast-off to match cast-on edge.

Join short ends together. I use the “crochet slip stitch” method. Tidy loose ends by hiding them in the seam.

  1. Good morning Mary Anne. I was so pleased, on Saturday evening, when Gary’s number was called and he came back with one of your headbands as his choice of door prize. It is soft and warm and I have been using it each time I take the dog out for her walk. The colour is lively and I have purple and navy on my jacket. Thank you for donating it. You can be confident that it is being enjoyed and appreciated. Jane Cassidy.
