Machine knitters can produce a similar looking hat.
Knit a rectangle approx 9″ to 10″ x 21″. (larger heads up to 23″)
Any stitch that looks like ribbing works nicely. Some knitters may be familiar with the “tea cozy” stitch. (slip stitch) which is very nice for this hat.
Seam the short ends as for a ” Mobeus” scarf or cowl. (right side to a wrong side) It will appear as a twist.
Gather the top to close the crown and side as appropriate.
This hat is very versatile when constructed with very different yarns.
